Coleman had a jewelry store there. He built a house for himself at 500 Missouri Avenue, now called the Coleman-Fee mansion. There's a great story Nimrod Fee used to tell about a large watch dog Coleman got to protect his jewelry store. A couple of drinking buddies heard about the dog and decided to test its mettle (metal?) So with Coleman's blessing as he had been informed of the plan, the slighter one started to enter the back of the jewelry store by crawling in over the transom ( the tilt-able window above the doors that were used before 1920 or so). The fierce guard dog who was left in the store at night heard the commotion, jumped through the plate glass window in the front of the store and ran all the way to the Coleman home. I know they fixed the window, I don't know what they did with the dog. (Story by Alan Rhodes)
